about the artist
Kurt Vonnegut wrote that "any work of art is half of a conversation between two human beings, and it helps a lot to know who is talking at you. No picture can attract serious attention without a particular sort of human being attached to it in the viewer's mind."
You can think of my photos as the first quarter of our conversation, and this text as the second quarter. (The other half of the conversation would require you contacting me...please feel free to do so). With the combination of my photos and this text, you should be able to gain a pretty good understanding of who I am and what I am all about.
First of all, I, Keith Novosel, am an extremely mellow person. I am constant, steady, and calm. You won't see me yelling in anger, but you also won't likely see me jumping for joy. Instead, when upset I will probably just take a deep breath try to get over it, and when I'm happy (which is most of the time) I will quietly smile and take in my surroundings. I appreciate and enjoy all things simple in life.
For example:
My favorite music is just acoustic guitar accompanied by a voice with unique character singing meaningful lyrics.
My favorite activity is surfing perfect clean waves. Noseriding and barrels are the most important parts of surfing to me. These acts put me in the ideal position on the wave, where the most power is. I deeply enjoy feeling of the natural energy while in the curl of the wave.
I like to put myself in positive environments--in spectacular locations with genuinely nice people. I appreciate the natural beauty of the world and of the people in it. For this reason, I only use natural light in my photos. When I shoot scenic photos of just the earth, I try to show its full beauty with no human influence. When I have buildings in my photos, I make sure to show their interaction within the natural environment. When people are the main subject of my photos, I try to show their true character. You will NEVER find me positioning a person in front of a fake background and trying to get a phony smile out of them. Instead, I like to capture photos of people being real...feeling natural emotions in the light of the big natural studio under the sky.
I hope that reading this will help you to understand the thought and emotion behind the images on the site.
Since the conversation is only half done at this point, I would enjoy hearing from you. You can write just to comment on any of the photos on the site, to say hi, or to inquire about purchasing prints or hiring me. If you would like photos of yourself actually being and feeling like yourself instead of just stiffly smiling and tilting your head in front of a camera, please write to me to set up a photo session. I would love to get to know you so that I can properly document your character, personality and lifestyle. I can use the style that has developed from what is important in my life to show what is important in yours.
I hope that you enjoy the photos on my site.
